Client Stories: Lunga Izata
I recently had the pleasure of working on the third novel in Lunga Izata’s speculative fiction trilogy. No Books Allowed is set in the fictional world of “Elikya, known as the land of hope, where everyone is accepted and where race, gender, sexuality, and disability do not separate people.”
The protagonists, who arrive from racially-segregated Rhodesia, discover that the utopian world is not all that is seems. In Elikya, literature is banned, and covert exploitation is rife.
No Books Allowed, is a compelling story set in an altered world that explores the flawed reality of our own. her characters are complex and human. Their encounters with tragedy and oppression are written with tenderness and clarity. Ultimately, the characters in the novel thrive because of the strength of their relationships with each other. The ending of the book brings together the natural and supernatural world and reveals a truth that was previously concealed.
Lunga launched her trilogy at the Museu Nacional de História Natural de Angola in Luanda, Angola on 22nd August 2024.
