writing as spell work

Casting a spell is a combination of ritual and will. The ritual supports the magic, and that is why it is necessary to use specific herbs, objects, incantations, tools, and so on. But without the concentrated force of will, the spell will be hollow and ineffective.

Writing requires the same pairing of ritual and will.

Without the desire to write, deep in the unconscious as well as in the conscious mind, the work will feel hollow and empty, no matter what software, or desk set-up you have.

The sigil is very important, but the power lies in the concerted will you bring to the work.

How can you bring your will to bear on the work of writing?

  • What are your tools? A sigil can be a tool, but so can a daily spiritual or magical practice. Accountability is another powerful tool: are there other writers who can help you to stay on track as you help them?

  • What incantation can you use? is there a meditation practice you can develop to strengthen your concentration?

  • In spell-casting, the magic always works, but it is guided by your unconscious rather than your conscious mind. Do shadow work around your writing to find out where your unconscious wants to take you.

  • Create a dream journal to find out what the unconscious wants, and compare the images, symbols, and language of your dreams with the writing that emerges in the day. see where these two forms of mining the unconscious begin to speak to each other.

With the combination of ritual and will, the writing is as powerful as a spell, and it will have the same potent results.
