writing as devotion

Writing is an act of devotion, the same as any other magical practice.

The work of writing is as integral to their lives as any other form of ritual, ceremony, or prayer, and their devotion produces magical results in their writing.

Whether they devote time daily, weekly, or monthly to their craft, devotion is always key.

How can you treat writing as an act of devotion?

  • Once you have a sigil, to create a consistent container for the work, that is already a strong signal that you will devote yourself to the writing no matter what happens.

  • When you develop a relationship with your will, your shadow, your unconscious mind, and your dreams, you are devoting yourself to the work.

  • The final step is to make these steps intentional, to offer up these practices to the work, to your own development as a writer, and to the writing that emerges.

  • To encourage the writing, and to show it devotion, you can also add an extra step to your sigil or your spell-casting: fresh flowers that you arrange on your altar, a candle that you only use while you are writing, or a song you play in your headphones before you begin the work, that acts as an offering.

  • Devotion doesn't have to be constraining or time-consuming. It just has to be intentional.
